Gone But Not Forgotten

This last day in February marks the birthday of 2 talented names in
entertainment who are unfortunately no longer with us.

Brian Jones (1942-1969)

Brian Jones would find fame as founding member of The Rolling Stones,
before personal conflicts and an increasing drug addiction led to him leaving the band in 1969.
Only a month later, his girlfriend found his body floating lifelessly in his swimming pool
due to uncertain events.  The coroner would label his demise "death by misadventure".
In 1995 the film Stoned would loosely chronicle his life.

Dorothy Stratten (1960-1980)

Dorothy Stratten was a Canadian model and actress.
She first found fame as a Playboy Playmate and was awarded Playmate Of The Year 1980.
She then moved into an acting career that was just beginning to take-off
when her estranged husband took both their lives in a shocking murder-suicide.
In 1983, Mariel Hemingway would portray Stratten in Bob Fosse's Star 80.

Fuckin' Hicks!

“Here is my final point.  About drugs, about alcohol,
about pornography and smoking and everything else.
What business is it of yours what I do, read,
buy, see, say, think, who I fuck, what I take into my body
- as long as I do not harm another human being on this planet?"

Comedian, social critic, satirist and musician Bill Hicks continually challenged society
by skewering its religions, politics, philosophies and personal issues.
His dark comedy often criticized consumerism, superficiality, mediocrity and banality
within the media and pop culture; which he felt were oppressive tools of the ruling class,
meant to "keep people stupid and apathetic."

His quest to humorously enlighten the masses came to an end on this day
in 1994 due to pancreatic cancer.  He was only 32.
