Behind The Cape

Hungarian actor Bela Lugosi is best remembered for his iconic portrayal of Dracula in the
1931 Universal classic of the same name.  Subsequent films found him typecast as a villain,
but still a viable attraction to audiences; however, his star power dwindled considerably
by the 40s and by the end of the decade he was dismissed as a notorious drug user
hooked on opiates initially taken to treat old military injuries.  Director Ed Wood would briefly
resurrect Lugosi's career in the early 50s shortly before his passing.
He was born on this day in 1882.
